Find an acupuncturist or naturopathic doctor

Licensed acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors and their practices registered in the federal NPI registry (NPPES): the credentials and state license number on each record, years since the NPI was issued, other practice locations, and who else lists the same address. Compare up to 3 side by side.

No ratings for sale. Featured spots are labelled and never change the order.

A registry listing is not a license check. The specialty and credentials on a listing are what the provider entered when registering for an NPI; NPPES does not verify them. Most states license acupuncturists, and only some license naturopathic doctors: confirm the license with your state board before your first visit.

Common questions

Does a listing mean the acupuncturist is licensed?

Not by itself. Every listing has an active NPI with Acupuncturist or Naturopath as its registered specialty, which the provider chose. Many listings show a license number the provider entered on the NPI record; confirm it with your state board's license lookup before your first visit.

Does Medicare cover acupuncture?

Only for chronic low back pain, under conditions set in 2020: up to 12 sessions in 90 days, 8 more if you improve, and no more than 20 a year, with 20% coinsurance after the Part B deductible. It must be furnished by a physician, or by a qualified practitioner with an accredited master's or doctoral degree and a state acupuncture license under the rules CMS sets. See Medicare.gov.

What do L.Ac., AP, DOM and EAMP mean?

They are state license titles for acupuncturists. L.Ac. (licensed acupuncturist) is the most common. On the records here, AP appears almost only in Florida, DOM mostly in Florida and New Mexico, and EAMP (East Asian Medicine Practitioner) in Washington. The credentials are self-reported on the NPI record.

Are naturopathic doctors licensed everywhere?

No. Only some states license naturopathic doctors (ND or NMD). Where they are licensed, it usually takes a four-year graduate program accredited by CNME and the NPLEX board exam. Elsewhere, the title is not regulated the same way: ask about training and accreditation.

Can I use my HSA or FSA for acupuncture?

IRS Publication 502 says acupuncture counts as a medical expense, which generally means it can be paid from an HSA or FSA. Herbal supplements generally don't count unless a medical practitioner recommends them to treat a specific condition diagnosed by a physician. Check your plan's rules.

Do you take fees for referrals?

No. Practices can buy a flat-fee featured listing, labelled as such. We never charge per referral, patient or appointment.
